I recently purchased God of War for my PS2, and for the next week or so, I was back into my junkie gamer phase, I spent every free moment in front of the TV.
In God of War you assume the role of Kratos, a war general who long ago had asked the god Aries for aid on the battlefield, but in turn was tricked into serving the war god and eventually, accidentally killing his own wife and child. Years later, the gods contact Kratos for his help in defeating Aries…you’ll have to play to get the rest of the story. (LOL)
Normally, I’m a RPG fan, but when games like this come out, it piques my curiousity. It has real time battle similar to Prince of Persia (another good game worth checking out), but unlike PoP, this one has enough blood and violence to sate even the most bloodthirsty gamer.
God of War also has deathblows while battling, for example: While battling a medusa a button prompt will appear, and if done correctly, you get to rip her head off (woo-hoo!), or locked in combat with minotaur tapping the circle button fast enough will thrust your sword into his gaping maw, dispatching him instantly.
Another neat little perk of this game is that after beating it, it unlocks many options, such as God Mode (ultra-hard, I tried once and found out how mortal I really am), the making of the game, monster sketches, deleted characters, etc.
This game was ranked #2 of all time for Playstation titles, but I had fallen in love with it before finding that tidbit out. I urge anyone looking for a new title to check this one out.
